The ayahuasca purge: what to expect
Purging is a common and expected part of ayahuasca ceremony. For most people it means vomiting. Not everyone purges, and most people do at some point. The short video below answers it.
What is the purge?
In traditional practice, the purge is a cleansing, physical and energetic. It often arrives alongside emotional release.
Does purging mean something went wrong?
No. Purging is expected, and the ceremony is set up for it. The team holds the room through the whole night, and nobody goes through it alone.
How to prepare your body
The 4 weeks of preparation in The Reset Retreat include dieta guidance. For at least 21 days before ceremony you avoid fermented, aged and cured foods, processed and smoked meats, heavy salt and sugar, and you cut back on caffeine. Alcohol and cannabis stop at least a week before. Full list on the ayahuasca diet and preparation page.
Tell us about every medication on your intake. Some do not mix with ayahuasca, and screening decides what is safe for you. See what not to mix with ayahuasca.
What happens after the purge?
The ceremony goes on, and so does the work. Whatever comes up in the night gets worked through on the integration calls in the 4 weeks after you fly home. Integration is where things land. More on integration after ceremony.
