WHAT NOT TO MIX WITH AYAHUASCA?

The most dangerous interactions involve serotonergic drugs. SSRIs (like Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro), SNRIs, and other antidepressants combined with ayahuasca can cause serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. MAO inhibitor medications are also extremely dangerous to combine. Certain opioids (particularly tramadol and dextromethorphan found in cough medicines) pose serious risks. Stimulants like MDMA, cocaine, and amphetamines should be avoided. Some Parkinson's medications and weight loss drugs interact dangerously. On the dietary side, foods high in tyramine (aged cheeses, cured meats, fermented foods, alcohol) should be avoided before ceremony because the MAOIs in ayahuasca can cause dangerous blood pressure spikes when combined with tyramine. Cannabis combined with ayahuasca can produce unpredictable effects. Always disclose ALL medications to your retreat center during screening.
